DAVID SHEAR - ARTIST
David was raised on the glistening North Shore of Massachusetts in
the 1960’s. Recognizing his artistic inclinations early on,
David’s mother on a regular
basis towed him to all of the area’s finest
art museums, including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Harvard
Peabody Museum, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. This
exposure left him inspired to pursue his artistic talents.
David has produced artistic works for his entire life. He has an innate sense of design that can be trained but can not be learned. From his earliest memories, David produced paintings and sculpture that received awards from local artistic societies and accolades from artistic minded people. He has trained under impressionist Kay Orr and abstract expressionist Michelle Magos.
About 20 years ago, David started painting in oils and acrylics in the abstract expressionist mode. In all phases of his development as an artist, he has found enthusiastic acceptance among art critics and art collectors. He has collectors in all parts of the country, and his work is exhibited in many fine homes, and in commercial settings such as law firms, medical centers, restaurants, and designer galleries. He has enjoyed representation by fine art galleries in Dallas, Cincinnati, Oklahoma City and Santa Fe. David believes that his artistic creation is not complete until his work is exhibited. He is continuously producing new works that express his dynamic artistic vision.
Artist Statement of David Shear
My painting is a process of directed discovery. Each work begins with a structure of dark and light tones. The pattern is usually derived from four main themes: water scenes, landscapes, mystical or desert spirits, or cro-magnon cave paintings. The color choice is emotional. I delve into the core feeling and aesthetic of these themes by painting with a high degree of abstraction. I add layer upon layer of paint to enrich and build depth and a sense of the infinite and ancient. The colors are complex, but I strive to simplify the pattern until it is a single statement. My goal is to create a unique, beautiful object that evokes the feeling derived from truly experiencing nature. When the work is harmonious, luscious with color and conveys an energetic sense of immediacy, it is complete.
